Black History Month
Guided Tour & Braiding Workshop on 28 February 2026

Black History Guided Tour

Dear friends of "Rumble in the Archive",

On the last day of Black History Month, Alkebulan Association is hosting two special events that honor history, heritage, and creativity.

12:30 to 13:30
Join Salim, Femi and Alexis for a Guided Tour in the exhibition "Benin Dues" at the museum. The exhibition revisits the 1897 British invasion of the Kingdom of Benin (present-day Nigeria), during which thousands of royal artefacts were looted and later sold in Europe as "Benin Bronzes". Today, the museum confronts this history by engaging with Nigerian communities, acknowledging rightful ownership claims, and rethinking access to cultural heritage.
Please sign up here if you plan to join.

Black History Braiding
14:00 to 17:00
After reflecting on the past, we celebrate living culture with a Braiding Workshop led by Temis, an experienced braider, alongside a special guest braider. Expect skill-sharing, storytelling, and the beauty of braiding as tradition, art, and connection.
Important: Please sign up here; registration is required.

Both events take place at the Ethnographic Museum UZH.

Come through, bring your people, and let's create a space of remembrance, creativity, and celebration together.
